Fibonatix Employee Spotlight: Chris Algie, Head of UK Business Unit

November 24, 2022

In this installment of our Employee Spotlight blogs, we hear from Chris Algie, Fibonatix’s Head of our UK Business unit. Chris has been with Fibonatix for almost 3 years now, and we sat down with him to find out what he loves most about Fibonatix, the thrill of working with high-risk clients, and his experience working in the payments industry. Read on to find out more.

Q: How did you get your position at Fibonatix and what was your experience prior to joining the Fibonatix team?

A: After several years of working as an Account Manager outside of the payments industry, I started my first position in payments as an Area Sales Manager at a payment processing company. After a few years there, I realised that I wanted to work with a company that is more service oriented; a company that has the service offering and the tools to really provide benefits to its clients. Since I enjoyed payments and wanted to stay in the payments industry, I found Fibonatix, which is a truly service oriented company, and decided to join the team!

Q: What’s your favorite aspect of the payments industry?

A: My favorite aspect about our industry is the fact that no two days are the same and I can expect something new to pop up almost every day. I’m also excited about providing valuable, crucial services for businesses across different industries. We are currently creating a platform that allows merchants to succeed where they wouldn’t normally do, so in other words, I like the challenge and thrill of finding unique and innovative solutions for our high-risk clients, by leveraging the fast-evolving products, services and insights of the payments field.

Q: What has been your favorite project so far?

A: There have been many different projects we’ve worked on over the years, but I think the most meaningful one for me was entering a new high-risk industry, researching it and studying it from scratch. Going from having zero understanding in that industry to being a key player within it was, and still is, very exciting. This was a very interesting undertaking and really contributed to my knowledge and understanding of high-risk industries overall, and I truly feel that we bring the right solutions to businesses that need them the most.

Q: What aspect of Fibonatix’s purpose resonates with you?

A: I think the value we place on time and attention. We often deal with merchants that have been overlooked thus far because other payment solutions providers haven’t taken the time to really get to know and understand their businesses. In other words, the purpose of actually taking the time to truly understand business models and their customers, and being able to provide those merchants with a stable, long-term solution that really provides value and helps meet their previously overlooked payment needs.

Q: What do you wish high-risk merchants knew?

A: I would say that I wish high-risk merchants understood the true value in working with the correct payments partner. I have witnessed several merchants who have had to deal with serious negative consequences for working with the wrong payment providers. This can cause significant long-term damage that one wouldn’t initially realise, so the importance of choosing and working with the right payments partner for your business is something that I wish all high-risk merchants knew and acted on, as this would save them a lot of wasted time, effort and negative outcomes.

Q:  What do you appreciate most about Fibonatix’s company culture?

A: I really appreciate that Fibonatix has given me the ability to provide my team with the tools they need to succeed in their roles, and that I have the support from my colleagues in every new process we initiate. So, in other words, it’s really the people at Fibonatix who enable and empower me to be a better leader for the UK team.

Q: What’s one thing we might not know about you?

A: Well, my colleagues already know I have two children that I adore, but I also really enjoy the outdoors and outside activities like mountain biking and the adrenaline that comes with it. Spending time in nature is something I truly value and enjoy, that’s why I feel very lucky to live in an area that allows that.
